The InterneTree™ is a Java applet that lets you view box-style trees on the World Wide Web. It displays a tree of individuals with a single person in the center, all of his or her ancestors to the right, and all of his or her descendants to the left. You can move through the tree, zoom in and out, choose a new center person and even view details about the center person.

Use the following steps to create an InternetTree and link it to your home page.

1. Start Family Tree Maker and open the Family File that contains the individuals you want to include in your tree.

2. From the Family Page, click the Internet menu, then select Publish Family Tree to the Internet.

   Note: If you're using Family Tree Maker version 4.0, you don't have an Internet menu. From the File menu, select Publish Family Tree on the Internet.

3. Family Tree Maker displays a dialog box reminding you to connect to the Internet before uploading your Family Tree. If you're not connected, click Cancel and do so now. Otherwise, click OK to continue with the process.

   Family Tree Maker displays the Include dialog box.

4. Select All Individuals to include all individuals in your Family File. If there are a lot of people in your Family File, you may want to include only a subset of the individuals to save time or limit the size of the tree. Larger trees can take longer to view and work with. Click the Selected Individuals option, and then click Individuals to Include to specify them.

   Family Tree Maker displays the Individuals to Include dialog box.

5. Next choose all of the individuals that you want to include in the tree. To include people one-by-one, click each individual in the list of Available individuals, and then click the > button to include them -- this moves the individual to the list on the right and includes them in the tree. If you want to include the ancestors or descendants of a given person, select that person in the list of Available individuals, and then click the Ancestors> or Descendants> button. To select all individuals that meet a certain criteria, click the Find> button.

6. Click OK to create the tree.

   Family Tree Maker displays a progress meter while the tree is being copied to your home page. As the transfer is beginning, Family Tree Maker also displays a dialog box asking whether you want to contribute your Family File to the World Family Tree Project.

7. If you have already checked your Family File for errors and want to contribute it to the World Family Tree Project, click Yes. Otherwise, click No.

   Note: Visit the World Family Tree Web site for more information on contributing to the World Family Tree Project.

   Family Tree Maker continues transferring your report to your home page and displays a confirmation dialog box when the transfer is complete.

8. After you finish reading the confirmation message, click OK.

Don't forget to close your Internet connection when you're done exploring the Internet. Depending on your setup, you may need to close both your browser and the connection to your Internet Service Provider.
