Horace Andrews Hutchins 1839-1914
Enlisting in the Federal army on the outbreak of the Civil war, he became paymaster, with the rank of major and for his services in that capacity was given the brevet rank of colonel BV Secretary of War Stanton. After the war he entered the petroleum refining business in Cleveland in partnership with George Westlake, under the firm name of Westlake, Hutchins & Co. The firm was successful and in 1876 it sold out to the -Standard Oil Co., in which Hutchins became a substantial stockholder and head of the domestic trade department, Which position until he retired from business in 1904. He was a member of the Standard Oil Trust, formed in 1882, an incorporator and director of the Standard Oil Co
