Wounded in thigh at Gaines's Mill, June 27, 1862. Commanded the regt. following 2nd Manassas through December 1862. General Hospital Charlottesville, June 22- July 9, 1863, dysentery. Mortally wounded in action in left leg at Payne's Farm, November 27, 1863. Left leg amputated below the knee. Died December 23, 1863 at General Hospital Charlottesville; pneumonia. Buried December 25, 1863 in Cemetery at University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
